Anant still tops investor list with B16bn

Anant Asavabhokin, the president of the property giant Land & Houses, is Thailand’s wealthiest shareholder, with holdings worth 15.96 billion baht, according to Money and Banking magazine.

Mr Anant has now held the top spot in the annual poll for seven years. His net worth rose 8.94% when comparing his holdings in LH and Mandarin Hotel as of Sept 30 from the year before.

Ranked second for the fourth straight year was Thongma Vijitpongpun, the 61.6% shareholder of Preuksa Real Estate, the country’s second-largest developer. His holdings of 15.83 billion baht increased 64.91% year-on-year, the largest gain among the top 10 investors.

In third place was Niti Osathanugrah, whose shareholdings in 15 listed companies had a value of 5.73 billion baht, an increase of 31.13%.

The poll, now in its 16th year and done in co-operation with Chulalongkorn University, is based on shareholdings of individual investors in companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand as of Sept 30. Holdings for 5,095 shareholders controlling at least 0.5% were evaluated. Share wealth for the group totalled 454.46 billion baht, an increase of 14.21% from the same period last year.

The SET on Sept 30 closed at 717.07 points, up 20.12% from a year earlier.

Fourth this year was Pravit Maleenont of BEC World, with his 11.42% stake in the entertainment giant valued at 5.16 billion baht, up 6.1%. Viroj Thanalongkorn, the major shareholder of the clothing company Sabina, rose to fifth place from 15th with a net worth of 4.38 billion baht, an increase of 38.52%.

Rounding out the top 10 were Worawit Weeraborwornpong of Siam Gas and Petrochemical; Grammy’s Paiboom Damrongchaitham; Bangkok Dusit Medical Services’ Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth; Anuphong Assavabhokhin of Asian Property; and Prachum Maleenont of BEC.
